Busking in Tel Aviv (Rules, Where and When to Do It)

The Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality encourages street performances in its streets and recognizes the contribution of street artists to the cultural richness of the city and its residents and to the joy of life in it. Whether you are a tourist looking to experience performing in the city or a local looking to make a living – the following post will elaborate on everything you must know when busking in Tel Aviv.

Street artists from all types – theater, street theater, circus, music, dance, performance artists, and other artists who see the urban space as a stage for their art are invited to perform throughout the city.

Rules for Busking in Tel Aviv

Donations – Donations can be collected from the audience. When the donation is in exchange for a disc, the disc must belong to the artist himself.

Cleanliness – It is important to keep the performance area clean.

Performance hours – Keep quiet in residential areas during rest hours, 16:00-14:00. On weekends you can perform until the time of Shabbat entry and from the exit of Shabbat until 22:00. The rest of the week, you can perform from 9:00 in the morning until 22:00 at night.

Consideration for large events – Avoid performing at a time when other events are taking place on the street.

Consideration of traffic – Do not perform in a location that interferes with the regular flow of traffic. Also, keep a pedestrian-free passage at least 1.3 feet wide. It is the artist’s responsibility to ensure that these rules are also observed by the audience around him.

Consideration of the residents of the area – Do not use musical instruments or other means, such as drums, electronic drums, wind instruments, percussion, and the like, which produce high decibels. For approval to use these instruments, please contact for approval with the municipality of Tel Aviv.

There are four permitted areas for musical instruments that produce extreme noise:

  • The Beach Promenade.
  • Near the Tel Aviv port, between the Electric Company and Tel Baruch.
  • Azrieli Bridge.
  • Opera House Square until the Dolphinarium

As a general rule, do not use an amplification system. In case of use and/or installation of an amplification system, a special request must be submitted for approval by the performance department of the city hall. In case of tenant complaints about noise, you will need to turn down the volume. If the problem is not solved – you will have to find an alternate location.
