Sarona Market is Tel Aviv’s latest culinary center, continuing the new wave of food markets that have popped up around the world. Much like Chelsea Market in New York City, Borough Market in London, and La Boqueria in Barcelona, This market is a paradise for foodies and culinary lovers with an emphasis on high quality.
A sharp contrast to Tel Aviv’s traditional food markets, such as the Levinsky or Carmel Markets, the Sarona Market is all about ‘culinary excellence’ and houses more than 90 shops, stalls, and chef restaurants in all categories. A groundbreaking combination in the culinary field.
Sarona Market is the largest indoor food market in Israel, with an area of 8,700 square meters. In the market, you will find cheeses from all over the world, fine vinegar flavored from Italy, fresh fish, special vegetables, wines and spices, coffee, products from the Far East, and other products that can be found in the world’s leading food markets. Along those, you will enjoy amazing local cuisine under the direction of the leading chefs in Israel.
Inside the shops, behind the counters, and in the lively restaurant kitchens you will find soul players offering products and dishes that have long been talked about in the city: Meat Bar’s burger, Chef Eyal Shani’s buffet (Miznon), the magician’s falafel, Rachel Ben Elul’s crazy sandwiches, GG Kubala from Chef Assaf Granit’s Mahneyuda group and more and more surprises.
In 2021, the market underwent a significant renovation that turned it into an experiential food complex with a particularly enjoyable entertainment option – an opportunity to sit in “sharing tables”, in a cozy and decorated space. Each diner can choose to bring their favorite dish to the table and taste a crazy variety of options.
Alongside all this, there are the best young culinary entrepreneurs who have come to bring fresh concepts of shopping, consumerism, and entertainment, all while constantly thinking about the great crowd that frequents the market every day. A must-see for real foodies.
Sarona Market Location and Opening Hours
Sharona Market is located on the southern side of the Templar colony, between HaArbaa Street and Kaplan Street. The colony of Sharona was built in 1871 by a delegation of Templars from Germany, who wanted to express their innovative ideas in the field of agriculture and construction. With the conquest of Israel by the British, the British Mandate settled in the colony and built new houses in the compound, which slightly changed its rural character. In 1947, the colony was transferred from the British to the new Jewish state and served as the official (and first) base of the Haganah and later as various government offices until 1955, when they moved to Jerusalem.
Today the area has changed quite a bit. Sarona Market borders the Sarona complex, the restored German Templar Colony, and is a few minutes by foot from the Tel Aviv Art Museum and Rothschild Boulevard. The complex was developed as part of the construction of a new neighborhood of Tel Aviv, in an area of the city that previously housed a military base and other industrial uses.
The Sarona Market is open seven days a week, including Shabbat.
- Sunday-Thursday, from 09:00-23:00.
- Friday, from 08:00-18:00.
- Saturday from 09:00-23:00.
